FAQ for Contractors

How does being PCSI Certified reduce my tax risk? 2017-10-30T18:02:55+00:00

Becoming a partner in our unique partnership model and thereby becoming PCSI Certified helps you operate your business in a tax efficient and secure manner, which is especially important in light of recent Canada Revenue Agency regulatory changes. The PCSI partnership is a unique business model developed by leading tax experts to give you a reliable and predictable tax structure.

How will becoming PCSI Certified help my small business? 2017-10-30T18:03:00+00:00

You become PCSI Certified when you invest in the PCSI Partnership. And investing in a partnership gets you in on the ground floor of an exciting new venture that can benefit you today and in the future. The same entrepreneurial spirit that motivates you drives us as well. Our business is servicing the needs of contractors. The revenue we make doing that goes back to our partners. As a partner, you get access to discounted benefits and services, and you earn a return on your capital investment in the form of annual partnership allocations. As PCSI revenue grows, so does your partnership capital. Branding – being PCSI certified will help differentiate you in the marketplace. You will be recognized as a contractor who has properly mitigated your tax risk and will not introduce risk to a hiring organization. You will also be recognized as being a member of a sophisticated partnership with access to executive level advice and support to help you grow your business.

How much does it cost to join the partnership and become PCSI Certified? 2017-10-30T18:03:05+00:00

Your one-time investment to join the partnership is $100. You earn a return on this initial investment in the form of annual partnership allocations. Accessing the solution does also include minor fees.

As a PCSI Certified contractor you are provided with a legal defense fund to protect you in tax court saving you thousands of dollars. Once you become PCSI Certified the time frame in which you can be protected begins the date you become a partner moving forward.

What kind of knowledge and expertise do you have? 2017-11-03T21:52:21+00:00

The PCSI team has expertise in many of the areas that are important to independent contractors. We’ve also been studying the issues and compiling resources that can help you make your business more successful. These are a few of the topics we’ve researched:

  • Tax risk, tax planning

  • Barriers and gaps in the marketplace for small businesses

  • Best places to find services for independent contractors

Why does PCSI focus on supporting independent contractors? 2017-10-30T18:03:38+00:00

Although there are almost 3 million self-employed people in Canada, few companies are focused on providing service to them as a defined market. PCSI sees the independent contractor community as an important and integral part of the Canadian workforce, providing companies with flexibility and specialized expertise. We think it’s time contractors receive the respect and services they deserve.

How does PCSI know the challenges I face as a contractor? 2017-10-31T15:35:07+00:00

We’ve been there. The PCSI team includes reputable professionals who have executive-level business experience and are former independent contractors. During our careers, we sought out services for our businesses but found them lacking. Most importantly, our tax and legal experts understand the tax risks you may face by being deemed a Personal Service Business. We started PCSI to provide a solution rather than just sounding the warning bells – to fill the service gap because we don’t think you should have to sacrifice security for the freedom and flexibility of being an independent contractor.

What kind of support can I expect from PCSI? 2017-11-08T19:52:42+00:00

PCSI is in business to serve and support independent contractors. We act as a professional association for our clients. You can count on us to stay informed about the needs of independent contractors and continue to develop new ways to support them. As a partner, you have a voice and we encourage your feedback on the services and benefits we provide today as well as the ones we should offer in the future.

How will PCSI help me stay informed about the issues that affect me? 2017-11-03T21:53:01+00:00

In our growing resource library found on our website, you’ll find the latest articles and case law information that can educate you on important issues and empower you to ask the tough questions about the best way to run your business safely and efficiently. We’ll also stay connected with you, providing updates and advice through ongoing communications and on our PCSI blog.

How long has PCSI been around? 2017-11-03T21:32:18+00:00

PCSI only came to market in mid 2016. We are proud to say that we are the first company with a true risk mitigation solution and still the only real solution in the marketplace. Our only competition has been addressing the depth of misperceptions people have about the issue and explaining their actual risk exposure.

Who Pays the Fees? 2017-11-03T21:31:44+00:00

Most often it is the individual or organization initiating PCSI’s involvement who pays the fees.

  • If the employer is seeking PCSI engagement – they negotiate and pay the fees on behalf of their contractor base

  • If the contractor seeks out PCSI on their own – they negotiate and pay the fees for themselves

Testimonials

Every Independent Contractor in Canada should pay attention to this solution provided by PCSI if they and their accountant are concerned with the PSB issue. Finally, there is a CRA compliant solution that gives a contractor a stable tax structure and more importantly compliance reassurance. As a former CRA Auditor specializing in this area, I can tell you PCSI has done its homework and diligence. Employers also mitigate risk when it comes to the new Dependent Contractor classification.

David Inhaber (FCPA, FCGA)
Former CRA Auditor

Past court cases have shown that traditional approaches are no longer a viable safeguard against the rapidly escalating financial exposure relating to employment issues.By working with PCSI we are able to offer the only true risk mitigation strategy for Canadian companies engaging with
independent contractors.

Aly Bandali, CEO of Professional Contractor Solutions, gave a very educational presentation to our Branch. Aly has excellent knowledge of the independent contractor issues. His presentation provided a clear understanding of what the considerations need to be for both contractors and the companies that hire them for their services.

Patrick Landry
CIM Calgary Branch

Aly’s [PCSI] was an excellent session. He is articulate and knowledgeable, and I recommend PCSI’s expertise for any organization whose employees or members are connected in any way to contracting and consulting services, either as a client or provider.

Eric Morin
Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET)

The APEGA Calgary Branch organized the presentation “Strategies for Independent Contractors, Employers and Progressive Organizations” by Professional Contractor Solutions. Their presentation was on topic, sometimes surprising, and conducted professionally by the speakers. I recommend these experts to persons or organizations contemplating their engagement.
